Kahului Railroad Co. Wailuku Depot, 1906

This depot replaced the old Wailuku depot which was located on the south side of the present Lower Main Street where it intersects Mill Road. This depot was located at the site of the present day parking garage for Maui Realty Suites at 1885 Main St. as shown below in the 1906 map and current Google Earth view of the same area shown in the map.

The view is looking south toward Maalea with the West Maui Mountains visible to the right. Pictured to the left of the depot is a combination freight and passenger car built by master car builder John A. Hughes of Honolulu. The freight section on the car is in the middle with a first class compartment on one side holding 16 passengers and a second class compartment on the other side holding 20 passengers.
